It has been announced that Mr. Ito will be working on a new MMORPG title, called "Concerto Gate", a collaboration between Square Enix, Ponsbic and NHN Japan, and is the spiritual successor to the popular "Cross Gate" game and its expansions (originally developed by Square Enix in 2003). He will be the main composer on the project, and will be aided by another former Square Enix employee, Hiroki Kikuta, who will contribute 13 themes to the score. Mr. Kenji Ito was responsible for arranging the commercial music to the game, "Mabinogi", a fantasy MMORPG. He arranged an original composition from the game called, "An Old Story That My Grandmother Heard ", into a vocal theme. The vocalist is Rie Tanaka, well known from the "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" anime series and from other projects. A 30 second sample of the tune can be heard through the Mabinogi website.
In addition, Square Enix has announced a soundtrack release to one of their upcoming hits, "Seiken Densetsu 4: Dawn of Mana", which will be the 7th released title from the "Seiken Densetsu" series, the game scheduled for release on the 21st of December. The main composer of the score is Mr. Ito, but joining him is also Tsuyoshi Sekito, Masayoshi Soken and Junya Nakano, employees from Square Enix. Ryuichi Sakamoto also contributes, responsible for writing the theme music to the game, titled "Dawn of Mana". The "Seiken Densetsu 4: Dawn of Mana Original Soundtrack" will be released on January 24th 2007, with the catalog number SQEX-10083~6, spanning 4 discs. It will be published under Square Enix.

The music to the very first game in Square Enix's Seiken Densetsu series, "Seiken Densetsu - Final Fantasy Adventure", was released very recently by iTunes on behalf of Square Enix. The "Seiken Densetsu Original Soundtrack" was originally released on July 15th, 1991, and it was Mr. Ito's very first soundtrack release and his second original score (the first being "SaGa 2 Hidou Densetsu"). The "Seiken Densetsu Original Soundtrack" can be downloaded through Square Enix's webpage at this link.

With the release of the Omiya Soft / Bandai Namco developed game "Culdcept Saga" next month on the 22nd of November, Five Records has announced an Original Soundtrack release of the game's music, composed by Mr. Kenji Ito. The "Culdcept Saga Original Audio Collection" will feature an impressive four discs filled with new music by Mr. Ito, with the help of Joe Down Inc who assisted with the sound design. The "Culdcept Saga Original Audio Collection" will be available to purchase on December the 22nd with the catalog number VGCD-0064, published by Five Records. You can now preorder it at VGMWorld.com.
In other news, Mr. Ito composed one song for the upcoming original album by Manami Kiyota, "Hajimari no Daichi". Mr. Ito and Ms. Kiyota hinted a future collaboration a few months ago on a radio interview. "Hajimari no Daichi" will be available to purchase on November 24th. At least, Square Enix has released the final Super Famicom SaGa soundtrack via iTunes, "Romancing SaGa 3 Original Sound Version". It is the third and final SaGa score from the chip tune era, with all music composed and arranged by Mr. Kenji Ito. The original album was released on November 25th 1995 towards the last years of the Super Famicom system and is considered one of Mr. Ito's best works on the console. The score was released with yet another old and famous Final Fantasy arrange album, titled "Final Fantasy VI - Grand Finale", with music by Nobuo Uematsu. The composer responsible for creating the main theme to Seiken Densetsu 4: Dawn of Mana has been revealed. It is the very famous Ryuchi Sakamoto who was a member of electronic band Yellow Magic Orchestra and has made himself known for his innovative and creative works throughout the decade.

More Square Enix news today, as the company has announced the release of the "Romancing SaGa 2 Original Sound Version" via iTunes. Mr. Kenji Ito composed the entire score after a very successful effort from the first game, "Romancing SaGa". The original sound version was originally released in November 25th 1995 and was reprinted on October 1st 2004, both released by NTT Publishing.The score also features two compositions by Nobuo Uematsu but are arranged by Mr. Ito. The iTunes release of the score was also accompanied by the long awaited unreleased tunes from the recent popular Square Enix game, "Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-", with all tracks composed by soon-to-be "Final Fantasy XIII" composer, Masashi Hamauzu. Both releases are expected to be available to download in a few days, so please check by this page at Square Enix's official site to officially download the music when available!

Very special news for Kenji Ito fans, as he will be appearing at Famitsu's PRESS START 2006 -SYMPHONY OF GAMES- live concert. The event is promised to be a spectacular evening, with A-list game music celebrities such as Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo, Shogo Sakai and Michiru Oshima all appearing as guests with Mr. Ito. Also appearing is famed scenario / story writer Kazushige Nojima, game legend Masahiro Sakurai and vocalist Maki Kimura. Music from Mr. Ito's Romancing SaGa series will be played by the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted and lead by Taizo Takemoto) amongst many other titles. The event will take place on September 22nd at Bunkamura Orchard Hall. S Seat Tickets will cost 7,875 Yen, A Seat Tickets will cost 5,250 Yen, and B Seat Tickets will cost 3,150 Yen. Tickets will go on general sale on August 26th.

On the 28th of July, a new concert by Manami Kiyota was announced with Mr. Kenji Ito appearing as the co-star. The event, "Manami Kiyota x Kenji Ito Collaboration Live" will take place on the 26th of August at the event, Classics, St.Shibuya Park. Mr. Ito hinted in an earlier update that he would collaborate with Ms. Kiyota in the future, and this seems to be the big event he was referring to. Mr. Ito also hints possible inclusion of his Square music, but he is leaving it as a surprise for the event. Tickets will cost 3,000 yen each (with drinks included). Performers include Kenji Ito on Piano, Manami Kiyota on Piano and Vocals, Takaya Anada on 'Cello, and Reimi Ito with Chorus. Full details can be viewed on Ms. Kiyota's webpage.
Also, Mr. Ito has taken part in composing the music to the Pures' (a stage group) recent live event, "Our Endless Night -The spring time of life-", on the 3rd to the 5th of May this year. There, he composed alongside famous faces including Yoko Shimomura and Square Enix's Michio Okamiya and Kumi Tanioka. A DVD of the event is planned for the future.
Lastly, while still on the topic of live performances, Mr. Ito is co-composing the music to stage company R:MIX's upcoming play called "Maou Kourin 'Live SIDE & Evil SIDE'", written by Square Enix's Takashi Tokita and R:MIX's Seiya Machida. Once more, he will be joined by other composers including Yoko Shimomura, Michio Okamiya and Kumi Tanioka, including Manami Kiyota. The event is based upon the obscure Square game, "Live A Live", and is unknown if the music will be arrangements of Shimomura's music on the original game or new compositions. Once more, Square Enix has released another Kenji Ito score via iTunes. This time, it is the widely acclaimed "Romancing SaGa Original Sound Version" which was officially released in CD format in 1992. This iTunes release follows the recent successful SaGa music launch which has spanned over the last month. Also released with "Romancing SaGa Original Sound Version" is the arrange album, "Final Fantasy V - Dear Friends" from Square's Final Fantasy V. Square Enix has released more of their famed original soundtracks via iTunes. Amongst the released are "Final Fantasy IV Arrange Version - Celtic Moon", "Final Fantasy VII Piano Collections", "Jikuu no Hasha SaGa 3 Original Soundtrack (Final Fantasy Legend III)", "Makaitoushi SaGa Original Soundtrack (Final Fantasy Legend)", and also Kenji Ito and Nobuo Uematsu's collaboration on the score of "Hihou Densetsu SaGa 2 Original Soundtrack (Final Fantasy Legend II)". "Hihou Densetsu SaGa 2" was released in 1990 on the GameBoy handheld console, although an original soundtrack was released in late 1991 featuring music from all SaGa games released on the GameBoy. Resulting from his involvement in the early SaGa title, Mr. Ito became the main composer of the series and composed and arranged for all it's titles (with the exception of SaGa Frontier II and UNLIMITED: SaGa). For Japanese residents who are interested in these titles, all 5 can be found and downloaded through Square Enix.

Kenji Ito was the special guest star on singer/songwriter Manami Kiyota's personal internet radio, The Egg of Sound, which aired on the 22nd of this month, While on the air, Ms. Kiyota interviews and discusses Mr. Ito's recently released "Kenji Ito Piano Works Collection ~Everlasting Memories~" and also Mr. Ito's Square days. Ms. Kiyota has worked on such titles as "Final Fantasy Song Book Mahoroba" (a Final Fantasy series arrange album, featuring compositions by Nobuo Uematsu and arrangements by Yuji Hasegawa) where she wrote the lyrics to most songs as well as performed them. Mr. Ito and Ms. Kiyota also hint a possible collaboration in the future, so it's best to keep an eye on this duo. The Egg of Sound can be listened to via Ms. Kiyota's blog on this page.

Kenji Ito's first solo album was released in Japan today. The album is titled "Kenji Ito Piano Works Collection ~Everlasting Memories~" and is Mr. Ito's first solo debut outside the game music field. The album will also guest star Ms. Hiromi Ohta who sung the ending theme for Chocobo Racing, "Kokoro no Takerabako" (aka "Treasure Chest of the Heart"). She will be singing a rendition of the same vocal theme which is arranged by Mr. Ito. "Kenji Ito Piano Works Collection ~Everlasting Memories~" is available to purchase at VGMWorld.com. The full sound team of Seiken Densetsu 4: Dawn of Mana has been revealed. Working alongside Mr. Ito is Tsuyoshi Sekito, best known for his arrangements for The Black Mages and his work on the recent Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. He also worked alongside Mr. Ito on Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- by Square Enix in 2005. Hirosato Noda (who also worked with Mr. Ito on Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song-) is the synthesizer operator for the game.

The score for Square Enix's latest entry in their Seiken Densetsu series, Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana, has been released courtesy of Square Enix Japan and iTunes Japan. Mr. Ito was joined by Masaharu Iwata and Takayuki Aihara to produce this score, and with a total of 33 musical compositions, Mr. Ito has composed 12 of these tracks. It's been 5 years since the last Culdcept (Culdcept 2) was released, and Kenji Ito composed the music to the latest title in the Culdcept series, Culdcept Saga. He said that the quality of the game and the music is much better than the last one. Joe Down Inc. helped him with the sound design, and the music was completed.

Composed and arranged the music for the Windows MMO RPG game "Cross Gate Power Up Kit 3 Tenkai no Kishi to Seiei no Utahime". The soundtrack CD comes with the preorder of the game. The title of the album is "Cross Gate Power Kit 3 ~Premium Soundtrack". Track 1 to 11 are original soundtracks and track 12 to 16 are arranged tracks.
